Kami yang Memilih Murtad

Jumat lalu, saya dengan teman berdebat, tentang masjid mana kita mau pergiki untuk sholat Jumat. Saya pilih yang dekat kantor, karena di sana setiap yang solat di kasi satu box kue. Isinya; teh kotak, satu biji kurma dan 2 snack (kadang doko-doko, onde-onde, roti kacang, panada, macam-macam), dan jika beruntung kamu bisa dapat kue lapis. Lapisanya ada 5 dan warna-warni. Teman saya memilih masjid yang agak jauh dari kantor, alasannya, disana punya AC, sejuk. Jadi optionnya ada 2. Masjid ber-AC atau masjid ber-kue?

Keputusannya, saya mengikut teman saja. Kebetulan saya lagi malas jalan kaki di bawah matahari yang panasnya kaya nene moyang.

Pulang dari masjid, di dalam lobi kantor, saya dan teman banya cecerita receh. Yang kemudian bikin saya terinspirasi untuk tulis ini adalah saat dia lempar isu, “kenapa e, anak kampus di Fakultas Pertanian itu tidak ada yang mau jadi petani?, kenapa banyak orang kerja tidak sesuai jurusannya?…”

Jangankan mereka, kau saja lulusan hukum, terjebak jadi kuli tinta. Sedangkan saya kuliah administrasi negara, bukannya makar, lalu bikin negara baru, malah tadampar jadi tukang layout atau kadang poto-poto. Ini paradoks. Sudah jadi fenomena umum.

Mungkin, kelemahan kita adalah terlambat mengenal passion kita sendiri. Setelah lulus dari SMA, saya tidak pernah ada bayangan karir apa yang menunggu saya waktu memilih jurusan di FISIP. Tidak punya bekal sama sekali. Ingin jadi tentara, tapi apa daya, naik pete-pete mabo.

Fenomena lain dan masih relevan juga adalah banyak mahasiswa itu merasa telah salah pilih jurusan setelah melewati tiga atau empat semester atau lebih parahnya setelah lulus. Realitas seperti ini yang kemudian memunculkan istilah job-education mismatch. Sebuah keadaan dimana negara menghadapi potensi ketidakcocokan bidang keahlian pekerja. Keadaan begini akan meyulitkan penerapan merit sistem, di bidang kerja apapun, entah General Manager atau tukang pasang pondasi. (disini saya mulai gunakan istilah akademis supaya seimbang dengan bahasa pasar di awal-awal tulisan ini).

Sebenarnya, kita bisa mengurangi ketimpangan job-education mismatch tadi sebelum orang masuk perguruan tinggi. Artinya sejak SMA sudah dibekali. Caranya bisa dengan Bimbingan Konseling (BK), dulu istilahnya Bimbingan Penyuluhan (BP). Ada guru khususnya juga, kita sebut guru BP/BK.

Masalahnya adalah, disekolah itu, kita hanya akan masuk ruang BP kalo didapat habis baku hantam dengan teman. Atau kedapatan panjat pagar sekolah. Atau juga kedapatan melakukan kejahatan yang paling tercela; intip cede siswi.

Di zaman saya sekolah, ruang/guru BP semacam persimpangan jalan sunyi, tidak dilewati orang sama sekali. Padahal seharusnya, supaya tidak makan gaji buta, mereka harus jadi pusat pendampingan aspek kesejahteraan siswa. Jadi guru BK/BP bisa berfungsi dalam membantu siswa memilih kegiatan ekstrakurikuler, jurusan saat kuliah nanti, dan memantapkan penguasaan karir yang sesuai minat, bakat, dan passion. Layanan ini (BP/BK) sepertinya teramputasi dari sistem pendidikan di jenjang SMA. Waah, ini parah ini.

Tapi masalah SMA ini, sebenarnya hanya bagian kecil saja dari fenomena job-education mismatch. Ada banyak alasan eksternal yang memaksa kita untuk murtad dari jurusan pendidikan formal dan mengkhianati passion kita sendiri. Saya sebelum bekerja di tempat sekarang adalah seorang desperate unemployment. Ada banyak lamaran saya ajukan ke berbagai perusahaan. Saya tidak mengklasifikasi dan membuat kategori harus kerja pada bidang apa. Keinginan saya cuma satu, dapat kerja. Titik. Itu saja.

Karena tekad ingin kerja begitu menggumpal, ketika ditanya HRD, “kamu siap kerja lembur, sampai tengah malam?”, saya jawab “Siap bos”. “kamu siap biar tidak digaji”, saya jawab siap juga. Saya ikhlas. Meskipun dalam hati pura-pura kuat.

Alasan saya tidak pilih-pilih kerjaan, siap lembur (24/7) dan siap tidak digaji saat itu adalah ingin tambah ilmu dan belajar. Saya masih muda. Tidak punya tanggung jawab selain pada diri sendiri. Ada banyak hal yang bisa saya eksplorasi. Di kampus saya sudah belajar banyak teori membosankan tentang administrasi negara dan segala tetek bengeknya. Di tempat kerja saya bisa mencoba hal baru, hingga berjodoh dengan fotografi, jurnalisme, dan visual design. Tiga bidang ilmu yang tidak pernah saya cicipi di bangku kuliah. Pelan-pelan saya menjadi master of some advantageous skills setelah dinobatkan sebagai “Jack of all trades” oleh senior-senior. Disini saya mewinto diri sendiri.

Saya kembali merenung, bahwa kantor mungkin adalah kampus saya yang sebenarnya.

Nah, bisa jadi juga kenapa orang memilih pekerjaan di luar jurusan mereka adalah karena tren pasar kerja berubah. Kebutuhan industri dan permintaan pasar berkembang seiring dengan kemajuan teknologi dan perubahan kebutuhan konsumen. Beberapa bidang pekerjaan yang dulunya populer mungkin mengalami penurunan permintaan, sementara bidang baru yang belum terpikirkan sebelumnya muncul dengan cepat. Hal ini mendorong individu untuk menyesuaikan diri dengan pasar kerja yang terus berubah, bahkan jika itu berarti berpindah ke bidang yang tidak sesuai dengan jurusan kuliah.

Tapi ada alasan yang sistemik juga mengapa orang bekerja diluar jurusannya dan butuh intervensi dari regulator. Bukan regulatornya kompor gas ya, maksud saya adalah otoritas alias pemerintah. Seperti ketersediaan lapangan kerja yang sesuai jurusannya masih sedikit. Jumlah lulusan dari fakultas tertentu banyak sekali dan tidak sebanding dengan jumlah lowongan yang tersedia untuk jurusan itu (akhirnya orang sembarang kerja, asal tidak “pengacara”).

Swasta juga punya kontribusi atas fenomena ini. Perusahaan cenderung membuka lowongan tanpa mempertimbangkan latar belakang keilmuan (yang penting S1 disapurata, semua bisa daftar). Fakta-fakta lain yang tidak bisa dipinggirkan juga adalah masih banyak yang menanggap kuliah adalah hanya sebuah kewajiban sosial saja. Adanya tuntutan dari orang tua, keluarga, pacar, selingkuhan dan teman nongkrong agar tidak diasosiasikan sebagai orang tidak berpendidikan. Sehingga kuliah asal-asalan, dan kontradiktif dengan passion.

Pada akhirnya, saya teringat kata-kata dari seorang bijak. Saya lupa mendengar ini dimana, pak rektor UHO mungkin kah. Ia bilang “apapun yang kamu kerjakan saat ini, apapun yang menjadi tugasmu, kerjakan dengan baik dan penuh tanggungjawab, kerjakan dengan hati, karena kita tidak tahu apa yang menunggu kita di masa depan. Kita hanya akan menuai apa yang telah kita tabur.
