Selain video And1 mixtape, saya juga mengoleksi kaset NBA Ankle Breaker. Saya nonton berulang-ulang, saya putar terus, sampai saya hafal dengan kata-katanya pemain New York Knicks, Stephon Marbury. Dibanding menghafal vocabulary dan rumus-rumus tenses, saya lebih pilih menghafal phrase.

Kalimat Starbury (julukan Stephon) itu adalah alasan saya ikut kompetisi menulis esai, se-Kepton. Ini alasan terlalu melankolis, sampai harus seret pemain veteran NBA segala, berikut kata-kata mutiaranya. Padahal niatnya cari uang jajan, tambal sulam utang dan lunasi cicilan, wkwkwk. Tapi bahasan ini pre memory saja. Bukan itu poinnya, meskipun itu destinasinya.

Saya ingin berbagi bagaimana perjalanan tulisan saya itu hingga menjadi sebuah esai yang utuh. Temanya tentang literasi digital.

Sebelum memikirkan struktur esainya; background, isi serta kesimpulannya, saya sibuk pikirkan judul dulu.
Waktu merenung, tiba-tiba melintas di kepala saya kata Gladiator. Ini pasti karena dulu saya suka nonton semua season film Spartacus. Spartacus adalah budak orang Romawi yang memberontak ingin merdeka. Sewaktu ditindas, Spartacus dijadikan Gladiator, untuk menghibur Caesar dan publik Roman yang suka menikmati hal-hal sadistik.

Kemudian saya paksa sambungkan dengan tema tulisan mengenai literasi. Maka jadilah Gladiator Literasi. Sa karang bae-bae. Saya bikinkan maknanya, bahwa kita ini orang-orang analog harus bertarung mati-matian supaya tidak dikalahkan teknologi digital. Caranya adalah dengan belajar apa itu digitalisasi.
Nah kalo yang namanya bertarung pasti ada lokasinya. Spartacus itu bertarung di stadion kuno, namanya Colloseum. Bagaimana dengan gladiator literasi digital?, Dimana lokasi pertarungannya?. Ini yang bikin lama dan pusing.

Saya browsing di internet. Cari artikel sana sini. Buka youtube. Cari rekaman-rekaman webinar. Akhirnya, saya menemukan echo chamber. Echo chamber ini kalau saya andaikan di dunia nyata, itu semacam dimensi realitas. Kita tahu kalau kita berada di alam tempat manusia bertempat tinggal. Tapi kita yakin juga di alam yang sama namum dimensi yang lain ada mahluk tuhan yang lain, yaitu jin. Ruang yang ditempati jin itulah yang saya maksud. Kita tidak bisa lihat kasat mata. Nah itulah echo chamber dalam alam digital.

Jadi kita ini sebagai gladiator literasi beraktivitas di echo chamber itu yang di dalamnya banyak tantangan dan ancaman yang harus dihadapi. Nanti kalau bukunya sudah resmi rilis silahkan di hunting detailnya jika sedang tidak malas. Fix-lah kemudian judul esai saya “Gladiator Literasi di Arena Echo Chamber“. Judulnya sangat dipaksakan. Tapi mau diapa, saya suka Spartacus.

Judul ini saya bikin dua hari setelah kompetisi pertama kali diumumkan melalui medsos, 15 Agustus 2021 lalu. Dan saya mulai tulis isinya tiga hari jelang deadline. Setelah jadi, saya rendam lagi dua hari. Dan pas deadline saya kirim ke email panitia. Lalu saya pura-pura lupakan.

Dari awal pengumuman hingga tiga hari jelang deadline kerjaan saya hanya mengais informasi. Apa itu digital?, Apa itu echo chamber? Saya ikuti webinar oleh kementerian Kominfo. Membaca cepat artikel-artikel terkait digital. Mengikuti percakapan podcast, vlog, cecerita dengan istri saya, dll.

Tulisan cakaran

Selama itu, pena dan buku tidak pernah lepas. Setiap ide yang lewat, langsung saya “sumbele”. Saya tulis cepat-cepat. Jangan sampai hilang. Jika tangan kanan saya pake gendong anak, saya tulis dengan tangan kiri. Foto pada postingan ini adalah jejaknya. Waktu mau merampungkan semua poin-poin yang tercatat, saya sudah tidak tahu lagi bacanya.

Menghibur teori, data dan argumen dalam esai itu pada paragraf awal saya membuka dengan menyelipkan beberapa cerita ngilu terkait perkembangan digital atau komputerisasi. Misalnya cerita tentang ada yang bangga dan merasa kunci-kunci dunia setelah tahu bagaimana caranya buat New Folder di komputer.

Ada juga yang pareare dengan bertanya apa itu file. Itu adalah kasus-kasus yang membuat kita segan untuk ketawai, karena pelakunya orang tua kita, para digital immigrant.

Sudah dulu. Mengingat kembali kalimatnya Stephon Marbury, saya mo bilang; can’t find where i stand yet, soalnya para pendekar cendekiawan Kepton belum kasih keluar jurus.
