Satu-satunya yang tak akan mungkin kembali ialah waktu. Akan tetapi, bersama sebuah foto, cuplikan kenangan yang sejatinya tinggalah angan-angan dapat sejenak terhenti. Dokumentasi foto sebuah objek atau cerita mampu mengembalikan waktu yang telah kita lalui dalam bentuk ingatan.

Fotografi secara teknis mampu menyandera waktu. Emosi yang melekat pada sebuah objek atau peristiwa yang terdokumentasi melalui fotografi secara langsung terekonstruksi dengan sendirinya. Dan disitulah letak kekuatan fotografi. Kemampuannya mengajak kita mengembara kedalam lorong-lorong waktu yang pernah kita singgahi.

Kenangan yang terekam dalam bentuk foto memiliki makna istimewa sebab terbungkus oleh peristiwa besar didalamnya.

Seperti portrait Pak Marhaba dalam postingan ini. Ia seorang purnawirawan TNI AD yang agak beda tipis dengan Ralph Gibson, seorang pengajar fotografi di NYFA yang mengawali karirnya dalam dunia militer kemudian menemukan passionnya dalam fotografi. Dua pribadi dengan kecintaan yang sama namun berbeda pilihan. Yang satu memilih keluar dari kesatuan dan terjun bebas menekuni fotografi. Sedangkan yang lainnya tetap menjaga kesetiaan dan patriotisme menjaga NKRI sembari tetap mencintai fotografi dengan frekuensi memotret yang tereduksi.

Saya sangat menyukai gesture beliau dalam foto ini. Pertama karena ternyata diantara tumpukan barang kuno dan jadul miliknya ia memiliki kamera analog jenis Sakura EFP 2 buatan Jepang. Ia kemudian mempraktekan cara penggunaannya dihadapanku. Usianya yang tergilas zaman tak menyurutkan sorot matanya menerawang dari jendela bidik. Dalam kenangannya, ini seperti dulu, selagi dalam kesatuan. Membidik menggunakan senjata. Untuk membunuh. Mematikan kenangan seseorang. Melalui kamera, ia membidik untuk melestarikan kenangan seseorang.

Kedua, aku baru tahu setelah sepeninggal beliau. Bahwa nama aslinya bukan Marhaba. Marhaba adalah seorang dari sejumlah prajurit yang gugur pada masa penjajahan. Ia menerima pinangan menjadi tentara saat sedang memancing. Menurut penuturannya, dulu, menjadi tentara tidak sekompleks saat ini. Cukup berani mati dan sanggup memanggul senjata. Tak ada standar fisik yang disyaratkan. Ada rekannya yang juga direkrut bersamaan memiliki tubuh lebih pendek dari senjata. Katanya, atas alasan kemudahan pengadministrasian kantor, maka prajurit yang gugur digantikan dengan rekrutan baru. Hingga sekarang saya tak ingat nama aslinya siapa, meskipun sudah diberitahu beberapa waktu lalu oleh paman. Nama Marhaba sudah memenuhi ruang dihatiku untuk mengenangnya.
