Dalam fotojurnalistik dasar, ada dua macam peristiwa. Yang pertama peristiwa yang terjadi tanpa diduga. Kedua, foto terencana. Foto terencana bagi fotojurnalis menjadi kekuatan, dengan melakukan riset terhadap subjek maupun fenomena sosial.
